Discovery Rottnest Island

Assisting Rottnest Island’s first new accommodation in 30 years become a reality

Discovery Rottnest Island is an eco-tent experience situated on Rottnest Island’s Pinky Beach. It was the first accommodation to be built on Rottnest for 30 years and as such, was a project in the spotlight from project application through to opening.

Bright Communications was appointed at the community consultation phase by developers the Baileys Group. We provided PR and communications support from project vision through to development approval, building commencement, construction, opening, and the first nine months of operation.

We prepared a suite of communications material for the project, produced a website for the community consultation phase under an extremely tight timeframe, established a database and project e-newsletters.

Bright also managed public enquiries, and on-site project information. We maintained an FAQ document, working directly with the project team, and managed and monitored the project’s Facebook page and Instagram account.

When development was approved, we continued to keep media informed and worked with the Tourism Minister’s office to provide appropriate media opportunities.

When the largest owner and operator of lifestyle holiday parks in Australia, Discovery Parks, engaged in a joint venture with the Baileys Group, we provided their National PR and marketing team with an understanding of the unique nature of the project - its location, close scrutiny by Government, the media and public. We were appointed by Discovery Parks in a local PR capacity and worked with their team to prepare marketing strategy in the lead up to opening in March 2020.

When bookings opened we devised and helped create a pop-up furnished eco tent installation at Elizabeth Quay which allowed the public and media to experience the Discovery Rottnest Island glamping tent firsthand. It attracted widespread media interest. We wrote and managed the roll out of pre-opening communications in WA, working with Perth media on exclusive previews, a media walk-through pre-opening with the Tourism Minister, and a food and travel media and influencer tour, lunch and sleepover the day of the launch party before opening to the public. Following Discovery Rottnest Island’s opening, we identified and managed media famil opportunities often in association with Tourism WA and Rottnest Island Authority, hosted radio promotions, managed media enquiries and maintained communications materials and copywriting for the property’s pages on discoveryholidayparks.com.au. Our contract was extended beyond the initial agreement and we were fortunate to see this project through from architectural drawings to its first year of operation.
